Again, I was gone - but listening to recording - this is what I got of discussion:
Genealogy - Chronology - Prophetic Perspective
Rahab's son, Boaz older when she marries Ruth. Only four generations listed over next approximately 300 years. Not written as a history - it is a presentation of the living God working inside the history of the world, that He created for our benefit, and we messed up by inviting sin into it, and He is working this out. That's the story of the Bible. We are not always aware of all the facts, the history. Example - Hittites.
God does it His way - He can use evil in process can be overcome by the will of God to cause good to come out of even what was intended for evil.
Acting like inconsistencies are not there does not help. Confront questions. Admit lack of information - over come with faith. If everything is provable, then no place for faith.
Hannah - great faith.
Sacrifice at Shiloh.
Culture would honor wife who produced sons, Bible frequently honors what the world does not.
Hannah - Eli thinks she is drunk. Swaying, mouthing, emotional. Conceives and bears son, asked for and received son from the Lord - Samuel. Good bargain - bad bargain with God. Recognizes Lord's blessing. Prayer - rejoice in Your salvation. So happy to have child, gives totally to the Lord. Unselfish.
Find out how bad Eli's family is. Not following prescribed methodology. Selfish. Rebuked. Rejected.
Samuel grew in the presence of the Lord. 2:26 Samuel grew in stature and in favor of the Lord and men.
Called Samuel after failure of Eli and his sons. 3:19 Samuel grew and the Lord was with him and none of his words fell to the ground.
Ichabod - glory has departed. Ark stolen, Eli dies.
Samuel - get rid of foreign gods (umpteenth time)
If we can't have gods, we want a king like the nations around us. Rejection of God, not Samuel.
Selection of Saul. Hiding in the baggage. Perception. Character flaws. Vows. Amalekites - brought back king and animals but had been instructed to annihilate. See Esther - Haman descendant of Amalek.
Where are we in relation to culture of the world and culture of God?
